  2. Summary Twelve-year-old Carley Connors is very tough. After all, she had to be when she was living with her mother in Las Vegas. But she never had expected a betrayal that would force her into foster care. She is placed with the Murphys, a happy family with three boys. However, Carley keeps her distance because she has never known of the possibility of a family as perfect as the Murphys, as she only knew her reckless mother and abusive stepfather. But before long, Carley starts to feel at home with the Murphys. When she finally feels accepted, news from her mother changes all of that.
