What wouldn’t you do? What could you do?

  3. FOCI V Strategic Plan • A minimum 3 year-plan containing vision and mission of the university which is agreed by the stakeholders

  4. FOCI V Exit level for the programme • It should be minimum B1+ including summer • IELTS: 6 ?

  6. FOCI V Elementary Level: 4 modules including summer • 8 weeks (E) + 8 weeks (Pre-int) + 16 weeks (Int)+8 Weeks- (Upper-int) Summer • (Total Contact Hours-30 hrs per week for the 1st 8 weeks: 920 hrs) Pre-Intermediate Level: 3 modules • 8 weeks (pre-int) + 16 weeks (Int)+ 8 Weeks (upper-int) Intermediate Level: 2 modules • 8 weeks (Int) + 8 weeks (Upper-Int) Upper-Intermediate Level: 1 Module • 16 weeks (Upper-Int)

  7. FOCI V Support/Remedial Courses • After each module remedial courses are offered. • Objectives will be the same, materials will be different • 8-16 weeks repeat courses • If they fail again we give them online help and special tutoring (10 contact hours+10 online support ) • Alternative solution: Students will be placed one level back and continue the program with that level through the end of the year.

  8. FOCI V Syllabus • Integrated skills approach Contact Hours: • Elementary: 25 / 30 • Pre-Intermediate: 25 • Intermediate: 20 • Upper-Intermediate: 20

  9. FOCI V Provision for zero beginners • A preparation pack is necessary for Zero beginners because the books are not designed for this level. • Zero Level students should start the program at least a week earlier than other level students. • IT training is necessary depending on the program and the university

  10. FOCI V Faculty Entrance requirements There are two alternatives: 1. Only in the upper level the exit exam will function as the final exam. 2. Final grade will be calculated by taking 30 % of the course grades and 70 % of the Faculty Entrance Exam (Proficiency Exam) a) using Upper only? b) accumulative for all courses taken? c) taking the top 2 course grades?

  11. FOCI V What English language support is available to students when in faculty?      • Those who start the faculty with B1+ will be offered a support/a bridge program (compulsory elective) • More contact hours will be given to students who enter their faculty with a grade of B1+ using content based material parallel to their departments • Apart from compulsory elective English courses, a writing centre is necessary to help students in their departments

  12. FOCI V THANK YOU
