  44. entrance and entry • Both words can be used to mean the act of entering. However, entrance is used especially when talking about a ceremony or performance, or about the right to enter. • Compare: • to make an entrance onto the stage • an entrance examination • Britain's entry into the EEC • No entry! (road sign).
