  3. The Second call in the Huddle Tells the Tackles what to Do. This will be a number, which will indicate where they are to align themselves. The First call in the Huddle Tells the Nose Guard what to Do. The Eraser will get his adjustments if any from the sidelines, he must also wear a wrist band exactly like Mikes. Thus he will know all alignments as the team in front of him aligns. This is extremely important. Basic Calls and Numbers. Base, puts him head up on the center. Such as a 44 alignment Or a 33 alignment Or a 53 alignment Strong, puts him in the strong side A gap The Mike Backer will call the play in the huddle and is responsible for making the Strength call. Rome for Strong Right, London for Strong Left Weak, puts him in the weak side A gap The Tackle to the Strong call aligns with the first number and the Tackle to the Weak side aligns to the second number Ben and Fred Should be in the middle of the field awaiting the offensive approach if in a match-up scenario, or on their respective sides if in standard mode. Match-ups are game plan determinates. Sam, Will, Rush and Anchor should already be aligning to the Offensive strength upon sight of the Offense as they approach the line. Mike’s call is only a reinforcement to them.

  4. Anchor and Rush must be aware of the Tackles alignments and be able to adjust accordingly. Basic Terminology If the tackle is moved they should adjust accordingly.

  5. Basic Terminology Eraser, He is to move in a half jog half bounce arch along the 18 yard mark and as he is drifting he should be watching the entire play develop before him. He should eliminate all pass routes that do not threaten his 12 yard end line. As he eliminates patterns and adjusts to the play should the ball be thrown to the deepest threat he should take a direct path to the receiver and either intercept the ball OR knock the receiver out from under the ball. Should a ball carrier break free from the 2nd level defenders the eraser is to support violently and make the tackle. All 5 Mobile personnel on the second level are to mirror their offensive man and meet them AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE after the snap. These five are downhill players on ALL running plays The T-N-T’s should wreak havoc inside and draw doubleteams as they threaten the offensive backfield every play. Anchor and Rush must take the outside arm of the end man on the line of scrimmage off as they storm into the backfield eyeing the quarterback and looking to take on the first threat to them.

  12. The Youth 2 Level Defense Coaching Points

  13. Coaching PointsIf you can scout then I feel you must Chart the Following;

  14. Coaching Points & Key Notes; 1. Identify their four best plays. These are what you must focus on calling your game to stop! 2. What plays do they like to use inside the 10? If it’s worked before look for it again. Youth Coaches are creatures of “COMFORTABLE HABITS”.Also this is a key to what they will do in “crunch time” elsewhere on the field. 3. Do they trap or base block for the fullback? This will tell you if they are coaching the kids to beat you or just passing the ball around and calling plays to everyone. 4. Do their guards pull or are they primarily a zone or base blocking team? This is a great indicator as to what kind of athletes are on their line of scrimmage. 5. Who can we take advantage of on their offensive line? Goes without explanation. 6. How good is the center? Scale 1-5 How Serious are they at pounding inside? The athleticism of this kid will tell you a lot!

  15. Coaching Points & Key Notes; 7. Who are their best players? In Youth ball it is fairly easy to see who’s a fast kid but who is their best “football players?” 8. Who do they throw to? Sprint? Dropback? Bootleg? Short, medium, or long passing game? Generally this is a one man show, however you must know how and where they like to get him the ball. 9. Rate the QB. Scale 1-5. Is he the typical kid who can play well, or is he a game breaker? 10. Running backs. Speed rate 1-5. Size? Blocking? How good are they naturally, and how well are they coached? 11. Do they use motion? Why? How much do they run plays into the motion? If they are using motion because it looks cool you’ll know it. But if they use motion to read you or set you up you need to know and adjust accordingly so they can’t out formation you. This defense is designed to defend formations and always give a player chance to succeed due to his alignment. Misunderstood motion can and will lead to offensive production.

  16. Teaching the Techniques The Defense is structured in two personnel groups, the core personnel and the mobile personnel The Core Personnel is the Noseguard, Tackles and Ends. While the Mobile Group is the Linebackers and Corners. This group is designed to create blocking nets for the mobile group. In other terms these players responsibilities are to draw doubleteams and create as much disruption as possible within the offensive line and offensive core, which is described as everything from Tightend to Tightend or Tightend to Tight Slot. They’re given great liberties as to what they can do as long as they make mistakes on the offensive side of the ball. If they get over there and mess up I can live with it, but if they mess up on the line or in our defensive backfield I’ll correct the problem.

  17. Teaching the Techniques The Mobile Personnel group is designed to make tackles at the line of scrimmage and play down hill without fear of missing a tackle. The linebackers are taught to read the flow of the play through their manned key and they are taught to scrape down hill into the offensive backfield in order to meet the play at the point of attack through natural “go Holes” that occur in the offensive line due to the blocking nets created by the core. Some examples of these “Go Holes” follow; I Formation both backs right
