  1. History of World War II World War II is the most tragic page in the human history. 50 million people, much more than in any other war, were killed during the Second World War. The course will help you to understand what were the reasons of the Second World War, who were guilty in undoing the war, how did they come to power, etc. Want to find answers on these and many other questions regarding the Second World War? Then you are in a right place. You will learn the course of war, the basic operations, wartime diplomacy among the anti-German coalition. This course also will help you meet other goals, like an ability to inquire, think and analyze, an understanding of human behaviour.

  2. 1. Quizzes: 10 quizzes during the semester, usually on Wednesdays, if there is no midterm exam that week; Time – 10 minutes for the quiz; Each quiz will contain 10 questions with multiple-choice answers – 1 point for the correct answer; 1 additional question without possible answers – 2 points for the correct answer; Total points for quizzes – 100; If your score for quizzes is more than 100, the extra points will be added to the grand total; You will be permitted to make up the missed quiz in case of illness or force majeure. Please, e-mail or call me in such case BEFORE the class.

Midterm Exams: Number of midterm exams - 3; Exam type - Essay; Number of topics for the essay – 5 or 6 (given 1 week before the exam); Number of topics to write during the midterm exam – 1; Possibility to choose among topics – NO! (You can change the topic assigned by the instructor but 10 points will be deducted automatically from your grade); Essay length – at least one page written with the blue or black pen (please, do not use pencils for the essay. If you cross out something in your essay, it will not be considered as a mistake and no points will be deducted for it); Grading – maximum 50 points; Total possible points for the midterm exams – 150; You can use syllabus during the essay as a plan; Note, it is a good idea to write down essays on all the topics at home. It is always easier to write the essay after it during the class, and the grade is usually higher in this case; You will be permitted to make up the missed midterm exam only in case of illness or force majeure.   4. 3. Final Exam: Final exam will be on May 18, Thursday – 5:00pm; YOU CANNOT MISS THE FINAL EXAM! Form of the Final exam – multiple-choice test; Number of questions – there will be 25 questions with four multiple-choice answers – 2 points for the correct answer; Total points for Final exam – 50.

  5. 4. Evaluation: Quizzes – 100 points; Midterm Exam #1 – 50 points; Midterm Exam #2 – 50 points; Midterm Exam #3 – 50 points; Final Exam – 50 points; Total – 300 points (if you get 320 points, there is no extra reward for it).

Grading: A – 270 and higher (270-279 – A-); B – 240-269 (240-249 – B-, 250-259 – B, 260-269 – B+); C – 210-239 (210-219 – C-, 220-229 – C, 230-239 – C+); D – 180-209 (180-189 – D-, 190-199 – D, 200-209 – D+); Less than 180 points – Let’s hope, no one will have less than 180 points at the end of course.
