  2. What is the subjunctive? • The subjunctive is used to discuss potential or hypothetical events, or events that are portrayed subjectively. • The subjunctive mood contrasts with the indicative mood. • The indicative mood presents information as actual, objective facts.

  3. When do you use the subjunctive? There are two clauses in a sentence. When the main clause is a subjunctive expression, the next clause is in the subjunctive form. 2nd clause Main clause Yo ______que ________.

  4. When do you use the subjunctive?..cont. • The subjunctive is used when a subjunctive expression is used in the main clause. You can identify these expressions by using the acronym W.E.D.D.I.N.G.

When do you use the subjunctive?..cont. • The subjunctive can also be used when an incomplete action is the main clause. • Incomplete actions describes something that someone was going to do or thinking about doing. • Incomplete Actions • A menosque(unless) • En casa de que(in case) • Antes que(before) • Despuesque(after) • Tan pronto como (as soon as)

Examples of the Present Subjunctive • There are six verbs whose present tense is irregular. • Dudoqueustedvaya al Perú en diciembre.I doubt that you are going to Peru in December. • Yoquieroque John vaya el supermercado • I want John to go to the supermarket. • Yoquieroquecamine a escuelamanana. • I want to walk to school tommorrow.
