  2. El indicativo • Sabemos y hemos estudiado el indicativo • Yo camino = I am walking, I walk • Tú hablas = you speak, you are speaking • Nosotros vivimos = we live, we are living • El/ella comió = s/he ate

  3. El indicativo vs el subjuntivo • The indicative expresses: • Certainty, knowledge, fact, reality • Thesubjunctiveexpresses: • Desires/wants, demands, suggestions, uncertainty/doubt, unreal things/ideas • one person wanting, suggesting, or demanding that someone else do something

El subjuntivo • Still a bit confused? • Don’t worry...everyone knows the subjunctive is a WEIRDO • W = Wish (quieroque, esperoque...) • E = Emotion (temoque...) • I = Impersonal expressions (esimportanteque...) • R = Requests / Recommendation (recomiendoque...) • D = Doubt / Denial (dudoque...) • O = Obligation / Ojaláque

  6. Frases importantes • Some common phrases that DO NOT require the subjunctive: • Creer que... to believe that... • no dudar que ...to not doubt that ... • estar seguro que ...to be sure that ... • no es dudoso que ...it is not doubtful that ... • no hay duda que ...there is no doubt that ...

  11. Conjugations! • It might be difficult to determine WHEN to use the subjunctive... • But it is EASY to form it! • Remember how to make Ud. and Uds. command endings (mandatos)?? • It works the same way for the subjunctive!
