  1. A Day In The Life Of A Maidu Judy Oxley and Cindy Chang Parkview Elementary School, Chico, CA FINAL PRESENTATION Teaching With Technology II

  2. All About Ourselves Judy Oxley, a third grade teacher and Cindy Chang, a resource specialist, teach together at Parkview Elementary and collaborated to help all students acquire core curriculum.

  3. All About Our Lesson We developed a lesson that incorporated the use of technology with the study of the Native Americans of Butte County. One of our goals was for students, of all abilities, to succeed in web research , note taking, and importing graphics.

  4. Our Expectations We expected to become more proficient with technology in order to facilitate learning in the classroom. The chance to improve our own skills, while adhering to the rapid pace of delivering curriculum, was a unique opportunity both of us embraced. Through our increased knowledge, we could capitalize on the students’ excitement and enthusiasm for technology.

  5. Our Realities We realized our students were missing basic computer skills which became apparent during our introductory activity assessment. We struggled with facilitating this lesson for forty students, which included RSP students, below grade level readers and second language learners. As teachers we were limited in our knowledge of correct use of appropriate computer programs.

  6. Successes • Students and teachers gained proficiency in accessing websites. • Students and teachers learned to import graphics. • Students and teachers were highly motivated and excited about learning. • Students and teachers had access to more resources for learning.

  7. Shortcomings • Lack of adequate tutoring support in the lab during computer lab time. • Computer “glitches” that cause frustrations and raises anxiety during limited computer time. • Inconsistent software installations and other school resource limitations. • Limited access to computer lab due to schedules.

  8. Student Assessment Results: Class A 4 = Exemplary 3 = Proficient 2 = Basic

  9. Student Assessment Results: Class B 4 = Exemplary 3 = Proficient 2 = Basic

  10. Basic Assessment Example

  11. Proficient Assessment Example Wow!

  12. Exemplary Assessment Example

  13. Lesson Revisions We made the following changes to our lesson: 1. Added basic computer instruction. 2. Increased computer lab time. 3. Divided the students into two groups according to reading ability.

  14. Concluding Statements We are very pleased with the growth we made by building a lesson which integrates technology, standards, an assessment rubric and multiple computer programs. Our students reached higher levels of performance when offered a clear understanding of our expectations, the use of websites for research and two teachers working collaboratively to support all learners.
