  1. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Coach Peirce’s Classroom Economics Oak Ridge High School

  2. Here We Go • Welcome to Coach Peirce’s class • I am here to teach; you are here to learn; I’ll do my job and you will do yours. This class can be as interesting and fun as we make it. • We will ALL have a positive attitude. Attitude reflects leadership.

  3. Procedures • A procedure is the way that we do things. • To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: • To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. • To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order. • So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

  4. When YOU get to class Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. Put ALL electronics away(phones, IPods, ect.) Go directly to your assigned seat. Get books from closet(same as seat #). Books are not allowed to be removed from the room.

  5. After the tardy bell • Look for assignment on the board. • If there is a warm-up it needs to be completed in the time posted on the board. • When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction.

  6. During Instruction • Listen to the teacher with full attention. • When I am talking, you are not. • Don’t write anything during instruction. You will be given time for taking notes. • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand or by being called on. • Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. • After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

  7. During class assignments Make sure you read or listen to the directions. If you don’t understand, ask for help. If another student asks for help, HELP (unless it’s a test or quiz). Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper and on topic. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

  8. When You’re Done • Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. • If the assignment is to be turned in, do so.

  9. When Class Ends • Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. • Wait for Coach Peirce to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. • After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly.

  10. If you are tardy Sign the tardy sheet located by the door (no matter what the reason). Give me your tardy pass. Go to your seat after you are given permission to do so. You will not be excused from any work you missed. Make sure you get the work on your own (off the class website).

  11. If you are absent • Get the assignments from your classmates and the class web site. Do the work at home. • If you missed a test because of an excused absence, inform Coach Peirce and arrange a time to make up the test after school. • You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments. • You have 1 day to make up late work. If the assignment is not turned in you will get a “0”.

  12. Class Rules • Classroom rules are posted on the wall: • Bring all necessary materials to class. • No food, or drink allowed. • Always act and speak in an appropriate way. • If you’re not in dress code, you’re not in class. • No Phones, IPods, MP3 players, ect. • When I am talking, you are not. • Always help classmates.

  13. Consequences for not following rules Warning Referral Parent Contact Referral and Parent Teacher Conference

  14. Miscellaneous • You get two bathroom passes per 3 weeks. • If you need to leave class early you must have a pass from an administrator. • If you are involved in any extra curricular activity let me know if you will not be in class at least 1 class period in advance. • Do not cross The White Line

  15. Grading • Grading Policy • Tests 70% • Daily grades, quizzes 20% • Minor grades 10%

  16. Things to know All assignments and work can be found on the class website. There is a calendar on the class website that will tell what is being covered. When you do not turn in your work your parents will get a phone call that night. There will be a sub from time to time. You need to act as if I am here.
