  5. Introduction • When God allowed for a king in Israel, Samuel anointed Saul to be king. • After Saul disobeyed, God rejected Saul and had Samuel anoint his successor, David.

  6. Samuel’s mother, Hannah, was blessed by the High Priest Eli, before Samuel’s birth. Mary, Jesus’ mother, was blessed by an angel before Jesus’ birth. Samuel----------Christ Luke 1:30But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 1 Samuel 1:16-17I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief." 17 Eli answered, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."

  7. Samuel’s mother, Hannah, offered praise to God for His goodness to her. Mary, Jesus’ mother, offered praise to God for His goodness to her. Samuel----------Christ 1 Samuel 2:1-2Hannah prayed: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. 2 "There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one… like our God. Luke 1:46-47And Mary said: "My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…

  8. After nursing Samuel, Hanna brought a sacrifice to dedicate him to God. Mary and Joseph brought an offering to dedicate Jesus to God. Samuel----------Christ Luke 2:22-24Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said… 1 Samuel 1:24-2825 ...they brought the boy to Eli… 27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. 28 So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD."

  9. Eli, the High Priest, received the child. Simeon, a devout man, received the child Jesus. Samuel----------Christ 1 Samuel 2:11Then Elkanah [and Hannah] went home to Ramah, but the boy ministered before the LORD under Eli the priest. Luke 2:25-28Simeon, who was righteous and devout... 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts… 28 Simeon took [the Baby Jesus] in his arms and praised God...
