Current Funding Status: Tahoe Sierra IRWM • 2006-Proposition 50 Total Award: $12,500,000 • Ten separate project components, with eleven partnering agencies • 2009-Supplemental Proposition 50 Total Award: $2,115,272 • Nine separate project components with ten partnering agencies • 2011-Proposition 84 Implementation Total Award: $1,437,000 • Nine separate project components with eleven partnering agencies • 2012-Proposition 84 Planning Total Award: $577,480 • Revision of the current TS IRWM Planning Document

Decrease in water usage • Decrease pumping, treatment and transporting water supply • Decrease in stormwater runoff, fertilizer and energy usage • Project is a BMP under the California Urban Water Conservation Council Water Conservation Program: Turf Buy Back/Native Landscape Project After: Property with native plant, low water landscape installation Before: Property with lawn and inefficient landscape irrigation

8. TMDL Water Quality Monitoring for Truckee River (TR) • Truckee River watershed 303(d) listed • Targets suspended sediment • Monitoring needed to prioritize TMDL implementation • Monitoring required to assess effectivness of TMDL Coldstream Canyon: Severely eroded streambank sending tons of fine sediment into the TR each year; no monitorig Negro Canyon: road capture of Gregory Creek, Dec 2006; high turbidity loads, no monitoring of this event

9. Lake Tahoe Unified School District BMP Implementation • School District located in disadvantaged community • Mitigation of large developed areas and installation of best management practices that will mimic natural hydrologic processes • Assists in preservation of 303d Impaired Water body through reduction in pollutant loading, specifically fine sediments and nutrients Benefits and Technical Feasibility Community members and school children participate in BMP presentation to increase awareness on local natural resource issues.

10. Lake Tahoe TMDL BMP Implementation • Current focus on Large Multi-family and Commercial Properties • New Phases: Single Family Residential Enforcement, Expanded Outreach Campaign • New Project: Update Real Estate Community BMP Status Disclosure Benefits and Technical Feasibility Asphalt removal on MFR Installation of a rock/veg infiltration swale

11. Truckee River (TR) Voluntary BMP Retrofit Need and Consequences • TR is 303(d) listed for suspended sediment • TMDL lists stormwater and legacy issues as priority sediment sources • Tahoe Donner and Donner Lake subdivisions: erosive soils, steep slopes, high % lot coverage; high density building Example from another program: Increased infiltration, source control, via vegetation, and runoff and drip line capture Poor infiltration and source control from residential sites

12. Water Supply Pipeline Replacement: • Decrease in water loss through leakage • Increase in fire protection, water pressure and availability • Project is a BMP under CUWCC Before: Aged, deteriorating lines After: Replacement water lines and main lines

Benefits for Implementation of Project Components – Tahoe Sierra IRWM Water Quality - addresses non-point source pollutant loading from urban areas - necessary component related to TMDL development and requirements - helps to meets standards for Safe Drinking Water Act Ecosystem Restoration - restores historic stream channel and hydrologic conditions for benefits of human populations and fish/wildlife - serves as a natural filter to decrease pollutant loading into local waterbodies

Benefits for Implementation of Project Components – Tahoe Sierra IRWM Water Conservation & Water Supply - builds reliable infrastructure to supply water to urban and dis-advantaged communities - promotes water conservation measures and practices specifically related to AB 1420 Flood Control - reduces potential for property damage and health risks - retains and manages stormwater runoff for other beneficial uses Disadvantaged Communities - increases economic viability though implementation of project components - improves environmental degradation within disadvantaged community
