  2. What is Internet Netiquette? • "Netiquette" stands for "Internet Etiquette“ • Refers to the set of practices created over the years to make the Internet experience pleasant for everyone. It is the way you use and respond to things on the computer. • Netiquette is primarily concerned with matters of courtesy in communications. This means you are nice and respectful when using computers and typing anything on the internet.

  3. Golden Rulesof the Computer • You should not use a computer to harm other people. This includes feelings! • You should not interfere with other people's computer work. • You should not snoop around in other people's computer files. • You should not use a computer to steal.

  4. More Golden Rules • You should not use other people's computer without their permission. • You should always use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect for your classmates and other people.

  5. Let’s Practice • You are instant messaging a friend. Your friend types, “You are stupid!” • Is this friend following the Golden Rules of the Computer? • How would you respond to your friend? • We are getting ready to use Study Island. When you turn on the computer, someone is already logged on. You are able to see everything this person was doing. What should you do?

  6. More Practice • What does it mean if you are typing and everything is in CAPITAL LETTERS? • Example: THIS IS BORING. • You are over at a friends house. Their parents are not home and your friend is watching TV. You see the computer is on. You decide you are just going to quickly play a game. Is this the right decision?
