  1. Thursday, September 7th • Greetings, humans. Once you place your books at your seat, (try to) retrieve the same laptop that you had yesterday. Log on and then locate your Word doc from yesterday . By the end of today, you should: • Have no trouble logging into a school computer • Have a storage location for your school assignments • Be prepared to email teachers/adults • Have a better idea of who your teacher is (and I will have a better idea of who you are)

  2. Email Etiquette Checklist • Have a subject relating to what your email is about: “Introductory Assignment” • Have a formal greeting: “Good morning”, “Hello”, etc. • Address the recipient of your email: “Hi, Mr. Harris” • Have a short message explaining the purpose of your email: “Here is my writing assignment. Your hair is looking great today.” Skip a line or two between your message and your goodbye. • Have a formal goodbye: “Sincerely”, “Have a good day”, etc…and then skip lines and sign name

  3. Friday, September 8th • Hello, future adults. Prepare yourself for today’s class by opening your notebook for this class or getting yourself a blank piece of lined paper. Put your name and today’s date at the top. You will not be turning this in. • Today’s Riddles: What has trees with no leaves, towns with no people and rivers with no water? • What word begins with e, ends with e, and has one letter in it?

  4. Oh The Places You’ve Read… For your summer reading assignment in this class, we will be focusing on setting, a greatly important part of any story, including your own. The place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place. In your notebook or on a piece of lined paper, begin describing the setting of your summer reading book with as much detail as you can. Consider:Time period, the location, how it affects the story, how it affects the characters, how it came to exist, how it could be better, and how it could be worse.

  5. Think about your story in different ways: • Time period, the location, how it affects the story, how it affects the characters, how it came to exist, how it could be better, and how it could be worse.

  6. Looking Ahead • This will be your first project • You will receive a grading guideline on Monday • Use this class period and this weekend to prepare yourself with as much information as possible for your setting
