  1. pteonlinereview@jroozreview.com | info@pteacademic.com.ph Top Tips for Summarize Spoken Text in PTE Listening Summarize Spoke Text is the first task type that you need to accomplish in PTE’s listening exam. Don’t underestimate it. While it’s not as fast-paced as those that preceded it, it is no less demanding with its 10-minute limit and 50–70 word requirement. Integrate the following tips to your PTE online training to get a high score in this section. 1. Familiarize yourself with the format The Summarize Spoken Text section will assess your ability to follow, analyze, and—as its name implies—summarize spoken information. At the top of the page, you’ll see detailed instructions about the task which includes:

  2. what the recording is about;  what you need to write;  the word count range that you need to achieve;  how much time you have to accomplish the task; and  how your summary is going to be graded. After the instructions, there’s a small box in the middle of the page where you’ll find the audio recording. The box shows the status of the material (i.e., playing or completed) and its volume. There is no pause or play. The audio material will play automatically when you start the task. You can only listen to it once, so pay attention. Below the recording, you’ll see a large text box where you must type your summary. 2. Master your editing tools. Most test takers who are not familiar with the test’s format are often thrown off by the editing tools— cut, copy, and paste—on the page. You’ll find them under the text box for your summary. Here’s how they work.  To cut text off the text box, highlight it and left-click the “cut” button.  To copy text, highlight it and left-click the “copy” button.  To transfer your lifted text, place your cursor on the space you want it on and left-click “paste.” There’s also the Total Word Count tool at the bottom of the page. As its name implies, it automatically keeps count of all the words you enter into the text box. Use it well. Want to answer an accurate Summarize Spoken Text mock test to get used to these tools? Enroll in a PTE online course! 3. Follow the word count. Pay attention to the word count tool. Make sure you’re words are within the 50–70 word count range. You will be penalized if you go over or under these figures.

  3. 4. Take down notes. Before the task begins, you’ll be given an erasable note-board booklet. Use it wisely. Jot down notes while you listen to the audio recording. Make sure you take note of all the key points and their supporting details. Develop shorthand writing techniques during your PTE online training period for better notetaking during the exam. 5. Proofread your final work. Keep an eye out for inconsistencies in grammar, structure, and content. Is everything spelled correctly? Are all the information accurate and relevant? Is the flow of ideas logical? Re-read your work from the last sentence to the first to pinpoint any easy-to-miss errors. Double-check your word count. Don’t confine your test preparations to your PTE online course. Take every opportunity to practice what you’ve learned in your training sessions. Incorporate these tips to your review efforts. Develop your approaches to the various task types of the high-stakes exam to raise your chances of success!
