Surgeries for ED

Every ED prescription medication works the same way: Each enhances how nitric oxide reacts with the body. As a naturally-occurring chemical in the body, nitric oxide relaxes the penis muscles allowing blood flow to increase – and blood flow to the corpus cavernosum (spongy tissue in the penis) is what causes erections.

  1. Surgeries for ED, recovery times, and costs The three most common surgical remedies for erectile dysfunction include vacuum devices, penile implants, and vascular reconstructive surgery. Vacuum Devices are not exactly surgical, but because they use a machine to pump up the volume of blood flow to the organ, these are generally listed as such. They operate much like a well which pumps water to the surface. A sealable cylinder is slipped onto the limp penis and an attached pump (which may be manual or electronic) is then activated. The pump removes air from the cylinder to draw blood into the porous membranes within the penis to force an erection. The VCD, or vacuum constriction device is best used with a constriction band (commonly known as a cock-ring), which is safe to leave in place for 30 minutes maximum. These devices range from about $90 USD to as high as $300. Penile Implants are a form of prosthesis. Typically performed as an outpatient procedure, inserting the penile implant takes around an hour and is relatively painless. Without insurance, the price for penile implants is about $4500 USD, though most major medical plans cover the procedure. Vascular Reconstructive Surgery involves actual surgery to repair damaged blood vessels in the penis. The cost for this surgery is difficult to pinpoint because in most cases, the total cost is associated with the findings of the surgeon once inside. Complicated surgeries can be costly.
