  2. Mexico History of hydrologic boundary In 1946 the Department of Hydrologic Resources divided the country into 37 hydrologic regions. By the 1970’s those regions had become extensively used in hydrologic reports throughout the country. The National Institute of Geography and Census……El Instituto Nacional de Estadística geografía e Informática (INEGI), adopted these subdivisions as the official hydrologic units.

  5. New NationalHydrographicWatershedBoundaries WorkingPartnershipwith INEGI-INE-CONAGUA INE – National Ecological Institute Conagua – National Water Commission

  6. Distribution of WatershedsbySize The Objective of the Project is to generate regional watersheds at the 1:250,000-scale • The criteria to delineate these watersheds are based on natural features (hydrography and topography)

  7. BinationalWatershedsWorkingGroup México – UnitedStates Environmental Health Initiative areas In October 2007 the first of three technical meetings took place between the INEGI, USGS, and IBWC. The intent of the workgroup was to generate binatinional watersheds as well as the hydrographic networks along the border. It was decided at that meeting that INEGI would follow the US guidance WBD for the shared containers.

Current Status of thewatershedsdelineation in Mexico Currently USGS and INEGI have completed 8-digit Subbasin boundaries for the regions 1-2 and 3-4 harmonized with the Mexican states of Baja California North, Sonora, and Chihuahua and the US states of California, Arizona, and New Mexico. INEGI (in coordination with USGS-telecon/webex/ftp) has also completed 5th-level Watersheds and 6th-level Subwatersheds in these regions. Cuencas Oficiales de México 1:50,000 scale

  9. Current Status of thewatershedsdelineation in Mexico Add picture from Kim for CA USGS has coordinated and updated the certified WBD for 8-, 10-, and 12-digits in states where edits were required.

Current Status of Watershed Delineation in Mexico and along the Texas Border For border watershed regions 5-6 and 7-8, INEGI and USGS currently have delineated down to the 8-digit Subbasin level. INEGI is preparing the DEMS and hydrography to continue the 10- digit Watershed and 12-digit Subwatershed boundaries
