  1. Summit Ink November 16, 2011 Issue 4 Summit staff cracking down; citations submitted for tomfoolery Tashawna Alvarado, Sports/Special Events Editor Students may come to school out of dress code. They may be in class texting their friends or walking around with their pants below there wastes. Students sometimes wonder why they haven’t got into trouble. That is because they have gotten a citation. A citation is when a student gets five Knight Bucks taken away. Sometimes students get a warning before they get a citation. Sometimes you don’t if you have been warned before. For more information, I interviewed Mr. Pallante. I asked Mr. P some questions about the citations. My first question to Mr. P was how many citations he gave out a day, and he responded, “About three or four, but it has gotten better.” Something’s I do not understand why people get a citation, so to learn the rest of the reasons I asked Mr. P why students get citations and he said, “Sagging, walking the hall without a pass, Electronics, . . Etc..” Then, I asked Mr. P if a student knows when they are getting a citation. He responded, “Yes, I show it to them and hand it to them.” Mr. P is the only person that is allowed to give out citations to students, but teachers can inform Mr. P if a student is out of dress code or is doing something wrong. Next, I asked Mr. P if you thought that this is a good punishment for the students. He responded, “ I wouldn’t say it is a punishment for the student, only if it results in students changing behavior.” Mr. P thinks that this is not a punishment unless it helps students become more disciplined. Then yes, one can say it worked as a punishment, but if it doesn’t work, they will have to try something else. Then, I asked Mr. P if it effects the student if they get citations. He responded, “ They lose Knight Bucks. so if would effect them during the incentive at the end of the month.” Students getting citations cannot affect other students in the school. Mr. P says, “We have the citations system to remind students of their responsibilities in school.” My opinion and the students’ opinions is that if you are not in dress code, sagging or whatever make sure that Mr. P doesn’t see you. Certainly do not get sent to the office that day. I think that this is a good idea, because if students lose Knight Bucks, they can earn them back by turning in five PBS tickets for 1 Knight Bucks. So students need to follow rules and do a good job in school. Qwon Dow is caught and gets a citation from Mr. P. Spirit Days! 2. 2 Opinion Page Math Sharks dive into successful learning Ryan Fisher, Opinion Editor • I interviewed the students from the math shark board about several different things. Two questions I asked them was why they were selected to be a math shark and how they felt about math in general. • When I asked Tierra Cato these questions she said, she is good at math but does not really like it. I then went to Ashley Menton with the same questions and she told me she was selected because Mr. Trip told her she looked good getting ate by a shark. • Her opinion about math is that she believes it is an important factor to life. Then I went to Tanisha Scott. She told me she was selected to be a math shark because she excels in math. She says that math is hard and she feels she is not very good at it. She told me it feels good to be a shark even though she did not know she was one until I came to interview her. Tray was another math shark on the board • When I asked him these questions he told me he was one of the sharks because he has an A in math. • Tray feels that math is an easy class for him. When I interviewed Teshira Tarver she told me she is not really sure, all she knows is that she was sitting in the detention room when Mr. Trip showed up asking her if he could take her picture and the next thing she knew she was a shark on the math shark board. These students are good students and deserve to be a math shark. • After I finished interviewing the math sharks I interviewed Mr. Trip the creator of the math shark board. I asked him a few questions also. Why did you Mr. Trip celebrates Math Sharks with the big fish of the ocean • choose those students to be a math shark, was one of the questions I asked him? He told me that he felt like they were doing the best work. • When I asked him how he feels about those sharks he replied “he is proud of them for doing nice work.” My next question I asked Mr. Trip was is he going to put up any new sharks. He said that he is going to put new ones up every couple of weeks depending on his students grades and how well they do in math. • The final question I asked in the interview toward Mr. Trip was what made him think of the math shark board. It was a collaboration between Mr. P, Mr. Sheely, Mr. Laney, and himself. he said. Mr. Trip is a very creative teacher for making this math shark board. 2011 Boys and Girl Club Basketball League Division II November 17 4:30- Summit Burgundy v Summit Black 5:15- Damon v Solomon November 22 4:30- Summit Burgundy v Solomon 5:15- MCHS v Damon 6:00- Summit Black v MCHS November 29 4:30- MCHS v Summit Burgundy 5:15- Summit Black v Solomon 6:00- Damon v Solomon December 6 4:30- Damon v Summit Black 5:15- Solomon v MCHS 6:00- Summit Burgundy v Summit Black December 13 4:30- Damon v Summit Burgundy 5:15- Summit Black v MCHS 6:00- Solomon v MCHS December 20 4:30- Summit Burgundy v Summit Black 5:15- Damon v Solomon 6:00- MCHS v Damon

  3. Profile Page 3 Mrs. Wilson, 8th grade Teacher Marcus Harris, Profile Editor The Chronicles of the Jelly Fisher Today I sat down with Mrs. Wilson. We had a nice conversion about her life. Before she worked here at Summit Academy, she had a whole different life. Before she met us she worked at a hospital as a nurse for eight years. Then she got her teaching degree at Kent State, her license is in 4th through 9th grade Language Arts. Then, she went out and got herself a teaching job at Hillman High School. Then after a few years there, she went to Salma High School for a couple of years and then she moved to Youngstown, Ohio and got job herself a job at Summit Academy for the position as the new eighth grade Language Arts teacher. She will be working with Mr. Moser. We welcome Mrs. Wilson to summit academy with love. Ryan Fisher, Opinion Editor My opinion of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 or COD MW3 is that it is godly. This game is so sweet and realistic millions of people like it as you can see by the ratings. This game made 600million dollars between the U.S. and U.K. alone in the first 24 hours it was released. People stood in line hours at Game Stop stores around the U.S. just to get it on the first day before it sold out. Some people even slept on the street or in their cars for days before it game out just to be the first people in line. It is insanely popular and is becoming more popular everyday. Because they are making so much money off of this game the makers have enough left over to have several commercials about it. One commercial they have made is the commercial about the Mountain Dew bottle caps. Under every cap is a code that you can enter online and get double XP for a certain amount of time and the same thing goes for Doritos. The creator of MW3 is banking of the game. I wish I was the maker of Call Of Duty, because so much money was made off of all 11 Call Of Duty’s. The guy who made these games probably is taking money baths. I would not be surprised if he sleeps on his money. I got my MW3 in the mail three days after the release date, because they had to check and double check that all of the games were going to the right places. Call Of Duty is the best game ever made! The Modern Warfare Call of Duty games is the best Call of Duty game made in my opinion. But Modern Warfare 3 is off the charts, and it is my favorite Call of Duty yet. CeVon McMullen, Senior Brion Koenig, Sports/Special Events Editor I sat down with Ce-von McMullen who is the man about to graduate in 2012. His goal for after graduation is to go into Culinary Arts for food making. His senior year at Summit has been awesome. He is going to graduate this year. In his spare time Ce-von likes to holler at girls., play sports for Summit, and work at Wendy’s flipping burgers. He is also a cool guy and he is trying to stay out of trouble his year at Summit. He is a well rounded guy and a jack of all trades. I enjoyed talking to Ce-von. He is a really awesome person.

For more information I interviewed Mrs. Brown questions for the basket ball team. Basketball will be from 3:18pm till 4:00pm. The first question that I asked Mrs. Brown was how many boys and girls are on the team. She responded, “There are eight girls and twenty-three boys.” This year the boys and girls practice together because we are playing as a coed team, which mean the boys and girls will be playing together. I asked Mrs. Brown are there any games this year, she responded, “Yes for the next six to eight weeks. The basketball Summit Academy basketball teams awaits play time on the bench Martial Arts kicks off Demo Team Anthony Hughes, News Editor Thisyear, the martial arts classes are bringing back the demonstration team. Recently, I sat down with Mr. Shelton to ask about the upcoming demonstration team. According to Mr. Shelton, “There will be a Demonstration team. The girls will be practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the boys will be practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays; or practice will be held twice a week.” Next, I asked him about any upcoming tournaments and competitions and where they are. He said, “There will be an open tournament and a Summit Academy tournament; the Summit Academy tournament will probably take place in Columbus, oh in April or May, we are going to be working with weapons and sparring.” Later in the interview, I asked Mr. Shelton how many students could sign up and he said, “There is no limit to signing up; it all depends on interest.” With that said, this is what the martial arts classes are going to be doing at Summit Academy. • teams will be playing Tuesday evening at 4:30pm at the boys and girls club, and I am working on putting them together so that we can play other schools. There’s an upper class and a lower class team.” • Next I asked Mrs. Brown, will the boys and girls play the same people. She responded, “We are playing as a coed team, boys and girls are playing together because their wasn’t enough girls to have their own team.” • Mrs. Brown says, “There are a lot of leaders and the coaches are Mr. Pellegrini, Mr. Laney and Mr. Logston. • If students don’t show up for practice they will be reconsidered from part of the team and wont play in the game.” Mrs. Brown responded. • There are many star players, students practice Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s and students play on Tuesdays. When I’ve asked what type of goodies we will be permitted to have, Mrs. Vaupel replied, “Cotton candy, popcorn, and snow cones.” I would prefer for us to have nachos and cheese and something to drink. We may b able to bring in our own snacks but it’s possible that we can’t. Mrs. Vaupel said that she might sell candy while were watching the movie. We will be able to sit anywhere we’d like as long as there’s no loud noise and whispering only. The movie choices are: Cars 2, Fast Five, and Madea’sBig Happy Family.
