  3. All About Ms. Elliott • My background • I grew up in Bakersfield, California. • I attended college at CSUB. • My experience • I’ve taught 1st grade, Title 1, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and have helped in Kindergarten and 5th grade classrooms. • I have taught 3rd grade the past 2 years at Castle.

  4. My Goals • To give students the academic and social skills needed to progress to fourth grade. • To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. • To help students make new friends and discover new interests.

  5. Classroom Rules • Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. • Our class rules are: Listen to and follow instructions Enter and exit prepared Always try your best Respect yourself and others No excuses! • Class Mission Statement- Student Generated

  6. Behavior and Consequences = exceptional positive behavior choices = unwarranted behavior choice and code = student had a good day *Student responsibly logs their behavior on their Weekly Progress Report in their Home and School Connection folder. I keep a daily record for comparison and report card conferences.

  7. Consequences 1st: Warning 2nd: Miss 5 minutes of recess 3rd: Miss all of recess and contact parent. You will call your parent from the classroom and explain. 4th: See principal

  8. Homework Homework will be assigned on a daily basis and will be collected and graded the following day it is assigned. Students will be responsible for daily reading, a Reading Log, Math homework, and other work that is not completed in class. Homework will go home in the Home & School Connection folder. The folder needs to come back to school everyday for other assignments/flyers that may be handed out during the week. Homework will be checked for completeness, general accuracy, effort, and neatness. Homework will be factored into the student’s quarterly Work Habits grade on their report card.

  9. Progress Reports The goal of the progress report is to give the parents and students an idea of current grades and provides a chance to focus attention on any needed areas before report cards are sent home at the end of each quarter. Each student will have the opportunity to improve failing assessment scores (69% or lower) if he/she chooses to correct all incorrect problems during their recess time. Graded papers will be sent home one week after they are given. The progress report will reflect the student’s progress and growth throughout the quarter. This report must also be signed by a parent and returned promptly.

  10. Basic Math Facts • It is very important that all students have mastered addition and subtraction facts through 20. • We will be working on multiplication and division this year. Students will need to memorize their multiplication and division facts through 10 by the end of 3rd grade. • I strongly urge students to practice basic math facts by using flashcards on a daily basis. *Dollar Tree* • Facts can be practiced during meals, in the car, before bed, during commercial breaks, walking to school, in the bath, etc. • Daily practice with basic facts will significantly help your student with their learning foundation. Math Facts Scoring Guide_____ 90-100% A (Mastery) 80-89% B (Approaching Mastery) 70-79% C (Satisfactory) 60-69% D (Unsatisfactory) 59% and below F (Failing)
