  1. Requesting Alternative Formats for your Textbooks

  2. Is this the first time you are usingAlternative Textbook Formats at Mizzou? If yes - there is a one-time step to finish setting up the accommodation: • Schedule and meet with the ACT Center for an Alternative Text Consultation. The consultation is to determine the best match of digital format for you. The ACT Center will convert your books to the format that you decide on together. To schedule your consultation with the ACT Center, contact: Jennifer Thornhill Phone: (573) 884-8600 Email: ThornhillJ@missouri.edu

  3. Before you can choose those books in which you need converted, you will need to generate your accommodation letters for the current semester and be sure to choose the Alternative Textbook Format accommodation. For assistance on how to generate your letters, view the Requesting, Modifying, or adding Accommodations tutorial.

  4. Step 1 – go to the “Alternative Formats” section in your myAccess Account

  5. Step 2 – select the books in which you need converted. Pay attention to the titles you are selecting as some of the items in the book list are not actual books. For example; “iClicker”, “Course Pac in Production – Check Back Later”.

  6. After you select the books, they will show up in a new list as “Processing” within the Alternative Formats section in your myAccess account. You will be able to track the status of your book conversions in this section as well.

  7. Step 3 – provide receipts Students must provide proof of purchase before books can be converted. You can send copies of your receipt(s) to mudcbooks@missouri.edu or you can stop by the Disability Center and have a copy of the receipt(s) made. Book conversions can take up to 2-4 weeks so it’s better to provide receipts as soon as possible to avoid any delays in your textbook conversions.

  8. What if a book does not show up in your list to request? You can manually enter a book yourself; • Go to the Alternative Formats section in myAccessand scroll down the page to: ADDITIONAL BOOK OR READING MATERIALS. • Select the class from the drop down menu • Enter the book title, 13-digit ISBN, and author. • Click ‘Submit Request’

  9. Questions? If you have any questions regarding your alternative formats for your textbooks, please contact the Accommodations Coordinator by email at mudcbooks@missouri.eduor call the office at (573) 882-4696.
