  1. D.Ed English OBJECTIVES- in general To develop the language skills and knowledge of the student teachers to make them use English fluently and accurately. To enhance the student teachers’ knowledge about the language such as syntax, morphology, lexis, phonology and different language discourses to make them confident and proficient users of English To equip student teachers with theoretical and pedagogic perspectives on English as a second language To develop critical awareness of approaches methods and principles of language learning/ acquisition in the student teachers.

  2. D.EdEnglish OBJECTIVES (contd.) • To make the student teachers familiarize with aspects of effective classroom management, procedures and strategies for teaching English • To provide hands on experience in developing unit and lesson planning for effective teaching of English • To develop or make use of resources and materials for teaching and assessing young learners • To analyse issues in language assessment practices and their impact on classroom teaching/learning process.

S1 P4 Proficiency of English LanguageObjectives • To enable student teachers to be competent in the English language • To assist student teachers understand the concept of mother-tongue as the language of identity and culture • To understand mother-tongue as a resource not as an interference in ESL classrooms • To understand the relationship between language and thought. • To develop basic knowledge of various stages of second language acquisition.

  4. Key ideas • The language English enjoys different statuses in different countries • The learning of the language as first, second and foreign language is done in different pace and rigour • One’s competence in mother-tongue positively influences one’s second language acquisition • Learning of English in Indian context in general and Kerala context in particular has great significance and it essentially empowers the learner.
