Bringing the ball back into play after a behind Player has to start with both feet in goal square Player can run out of the goal square or kick the ball only after a goal umpires signal Only after a play on call by the umpire, the player can then handball out of the square If a player changes direction/fakes in goal square prior to being called to play on, it is not considered play on.

Bringing the ball back into play after a behind All players must make every effort to make their way outside of protected area which is an area 19.2m x19m 15.7.1 “in the act of bringing the football into play after a behind has been scored, Kicks the football over the boundary line without the football first being touched by another player” Umpire to only pay free kick if a player doesn’t demonstrate sufficient intent to keep the ball in Or AFL Barwon Last Possession rule is in that particular grade. If a free kick is awarded for a breach of play prior to the kick out, and the free kick occurs within 50m of the kick out, the mark shall be advanced from the man on the mark
