  3. National Statistical Office (NSO) The NSO is the statistical information center for the whole country while provincial offices also exist and act as information centers the provinces. Data available in the centers not only of data produced by the NSO but that those produced by other government agencies as well. The NSO's major users include the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Bank of Thailand and international organizations such as ILO etc.

Roles and responsibilities of statistical organizations • NSO • Produce fundamental statistics (Survey / Censuses; population, agriculture, industry) • Provide statistical services for public and private sectors : statistical data and statistical technical advice (standard) • Coordinate with other statistical units at national and international levels • Preparing the Statistical Master Plan for implementation of the government statistical work • Other statistical units in line-ministries • Produce statistics from administrative data / reported data • Provide specific statistics by surveys for their own purposes

And Other Service on Statistical Techniques and Standards • Provides advisory services in terms of data collection procedure, • statistical techniques and computer processing system to the • government agencies and private organization. • Conducts a number of training courses related to statistical • techniques and data processing annually

Thai Government Statistical Data Integration National Information Center (NIC) is established by National Statistical Office (NSO) as a data administration in order to collect, compile and integrate statistics data from all government agencies into an information network in which data and information could be linked and exchanged among producers and users of the information, in order to facilitate the policy formulation, the management, and the development of the country.

Nso-Gis (Geospatial Information) National Statistics Office initial the Nso - Gis project to provide information in the form of spatial data via the Web (NSO-GIS) since October 1, 2008 Using data from the socio-economic survey / census statistics of the National Statistical Office. Presented in the form of a map (Thematic Maps) or geospatial statistics. Available through the website. http://sgis.nso.go.th in the web map / web feature services

How do we create Geospatial Information (1) • Preparing statistical data / indicators that have the area code in Excel File and provide a base map (Base Map) • Create statistical data base (StatDB) and store map data in a Geodatabase (GeoDB) • Import Statistical table / Indicators into a database (StatDB) • Link the statistical table / indicators from StatDB and GeoDB base map with the area code. And stored at GeoDB

How do we create Geospatial Information (2) • Analysis of the data layer (Legend), and color of the layer • Mapping by the color of the layer and checking for the accuracy of the map • Create map file and configuration file to public through the website and link to the web page of the NSO – GIS • Presented and published as a service over the Internet by acessed at the URL http://sgis.nso.go.th

  20. Benefit • Support the information for planning. Set policy and management. • Set target area for development or resolve problems in those area. • Set the budget for performance and effectiveness in each area. • Used as a tool to evaluate the government policies as well as consistency of performance effectiveness.
