September 26, 2011 - Ghost of the Lagoon Third person point of view / prediction Homework: None Lesson Essential Question: How does first person point of view differ from third person point of view and how does each impact the text? Warm Up: Set up your notebook page. In your Lit book on pg. 206, read the paragraph "What makes a hero?" and complete the "Chart it" activity underneath.

  4. Text analysis: Third person point of view Review: What are the defining characteristics of third person point of view? ·uses the pronouns he, she, they ·you can know multiple characters' thoughts ·the narrator is NOT a character in the story

  5. Model the skill: Third person point of view Let's read this passage together... Mako's mother had been up since dawn preparing food and doing chores. When Mako woke, he called to Afa and they went outside. If this were written in first person point of view, what would you not know? Why? That Mako's mother was preparing food - Mako was asleep. Wouldn't know Mako's name.

  7. Model the skill: Predict Let's read this passage together... As Kota got his coat and the leash, his dog danced around his feet. What kind of prediction could you make? Why? They are probably going on a walk and the dog is excited. How do movie previews help you make predictions?

Mako wants the reward and avenge his father's death The thirty acres of land and sailing canoe... The palm net took longer to make than Mako realized... It's going to get dark, maybe Tupa will come out IT'S TUPA!!! There was another fin, a huge fin... But with a loud splash, Afa fell over... Mako might jump in to save him..

The conflict, or problem, begins when Ernie finds Jaws floating on top of the water. This is an internal conflict because he sees the dead goldfish and doesn't know what to do. Staple your corrections to the FRONT of your original answer sheet and turn it in.
