Audience • Found through market research • 18 to 24 year old females • Able to relate to the people featured in the magazine • Use the Internet more than the average person • Fans of Japanese idols and possibly other Japanese music and media subcultures (e.g: film, anime, historical culture, language, etc.) • Interested in things different from the norm • Prefer to buy CDs and pirate music • On average, spends less than 10 pounds a month on music • Most follow the most popular groups like AKB48, Morning Musume and Momoiro Clover Z.

Young and Rubicam Audience Types • Used to research audience depending on their personality and lifestyle • Aspirers: Want status and the esteem of others, enjoy showing what they enjoy through small symbols • Audience prefer to buy CDs and goods like t-shirts, posters, photo collections, etc are popular amongst fans • Mainstreamers: 40% of the population and like to belong to a group • Follow the most popular groups in Japan and also fashion trends

  4. Socio-economic Group • Difficult to use in a magazine • Possibly in the higher grades as they are willing to spend a lot on a magazine and the importation of physical CDs • Possibly in the lower grades due to the low average age and reliance on piracy

  5. Do I fit into this audience type? • I would say that I do fit into this audience type. • This allows me to use my own prior knowledge and experiences on the genre and its fans (both myself and those I’ve met) to make the magazine appeal to the audience as much as possible.
