  2. Reading 1. What does the author tell us in the text? 2. In paragraphs 2,3 and 4, what is considered to be very important while listening to others? 3. What had you better do according to the text when your friends are in trouble? Main idea: There are two meanings of the phrase Listening skills. One refers to the type of listening practice and the other is about the art of being a good listener.

  3. Advice by the writer 1DO listen with • ears • eyes • undivided attention • your heart 2DOSDON'TS take turns to listeninterrupt ask questionsgive advice listen and be quietstart to tell your story look at the personhalf-listen speaking

  4. Language points One refers to the type of listening practice which we do when learning a foreign language. refer to “指的是”,“指……而言” What I said just now wasn't referring to you. What does the phrase “valuable information” refer to? I know the teacher was referring to Jack when he spoke of a bright boy. These sentences do not refer to the cause, but to the results.

  5. Language points 2)… when learning a foreign language … when we learn a foreign language 。 You'd better turn down the music when sleeping. Use your tape recorder when doing listening practice.

  6. Language points The more we practice, the better we get at listening to speech in a foreign language. The more he has, the more he wants. The older he gets, the stronger he looks. The higher you climb, the farther you'll see. The harder you work, the better you'll be paid. get better at doing… = be better at doing…, “更善于做……”。

  7. Language points In other words, I should not watch TV, or look over your shoulder at other people while we are talking together . (1) in other words = that is , that is to say (2) look over 从… Don’t look over your shoulder while walking on such a slippery road . The secretary spent a night looking over her notes .

  8. Language points So when you listen to someone, you should listen with complete attention, and with complete respect for the other person. respect 说“对某人(表示)尊敬” 常用“(show/have) respect to/for sb.” I have a great respect for journalists, but I don't know why. She had no respect for the manager. All the students treated the teachers with respect.

All children should respect their parents. Our chemistry teacher is much respected in our school. You should respect the opinions of your friends.

  10. Language points First , take turns to listen . take turns“依次,轮流”后常接不定式、at+ing或 直接加-ing 。 表示“轮流”的介词词组有 in turn 和 by turns 。 The family members took turns to look after the patient. take turns to watch over the baby = take turns (at) watching over the baby = watch over the baby in turn = watch over the baby by turns . If friends can take turns to listen to each other well, life will be better !

He reminded me of his kind father . I was reminded of my promise . Remind me to mail this letter after work . I reminded him to work hard .

  13. Language points Often, all we need is a good friend who will listen to us while we “talk things through”. talk through =fully discuss We should talk the plan through at the meeting.
