Our Lenten Talks By Amy Calleja and Geordie Schembri
It was 15th March 2013 and we went to our Lenten talks at the Sisters of St Joseph Convent in Rabat.
First we had an activity chosen by the priest, this was a trust walk. It was a lot of fun and after we were given a handout about how we felt during the activity.
After that it was time for break so we all went out to a small garden to eat our lunch. Later, it was time for mass, where the priest taught us why he wears the clothes he wears and why there are the things there on the altar.
He wears the dress because Jesus used to wear one like it. He wears a sash to show that he is not married to a woman but he is married to the Catholic Church. He wears a vestment to show a feast in the church.
An altar cloth is always white to represent the time Mary Magdalene came to search for Christ but only found a white cloth. A chalice is used to turn the wine into blood.
In the lighting of candles we remember and truly live the words of Our Lord: "I am the Light of the World”. A priest uses three drops of water after the offering because in the olden ages they would sacrifice their animals to god and the priest would then use water to wash his hands. There is a bible on the altar so the gospel can be read.
