Math Standards Trimester 1 • Represent and Interpret Data • Combinations of 10 • Addition and Subtraction to Twenty Trimester 2 • Understanding the Relationship between Addition and Subtraction • Understanding Place Value • Comparing Two-Digit Numbers Trimester 3 • Addition within 100 • Measurement • Geometry • Time

Writing Standards • Writing Opinion Pieces • Writing Informative/Explanatory Texts • Writing Narratives • Mastery is expected at the end of the year. • Language • Demonstrate effective use of the English grammar. • Demonstrate correct use of standard English capitalization, punctuation and spelling. • Acquires and uses grade-appropriate vocabulary and topic-specific words and phrases, including precise words which describe action, emotion, and experiences.

Weekly Homework Homework consists of: • Individualized math timed practice tests (Panther Facts) • Individualized reading and spelling word club levels • Individualized reading book bags • Reading log • Optional computer games and activities • Spelling dictation sentences Homework is due on Thursdays.

  9. Panther Timed Math Tests This is a school –wide math club emphasizing the memorization of math facts. • Lion Cubs- This is a first grade club focusing on addition and subtraction math facts to 20. There are four timed tests in this club. • Tigers Club- This is a second grade club consisting of four timed tests covering addition, subtraction and multiplication facts.

  10. 200 Word Club Words This is a first grade individualized reading and spelling program focusing on common sight words. • Our trained parent volunteers run this program. • Your child’s reading and spelling levels will be recorded each week on their homework cover sheet. • For those who enjoy a challenge, we will learn the 400 Word Club words!

Important Highlights: • Please send a healthy snack for recess. • Wear comfortable shoes on our P.E. days Mondays, Thursdays, and every other Wednesday. • Homework is importantand make sure it’s returned on Thursdays. • I have duty immediately after school. I can meet with you afterwards by a prearranged appointment. • We will be using iPads in our classroom. I will be attending several district mandatory meetings throughout the year.
