  4. Coaching Philosophy • If your team have fun, they’ll come • Invest in people, not softball. However they did sign up for softball, so don’t undermine the sport itself • Competition and wanting to do well on the field is not wrong • Belonging before Believing

  5. Coaching Characteristics • Believing • Players respond to you having faith in them • Help and guide • Encourage and cheer for • Understand and care for the individual needs for your team

  7. Coaching Characteristics 3. Knowledgeable • Good coach have an ability to break down the game • Fun & Fellowship is not an excuse for us not to be prepared • Make practices fun and challenging

  9. Coaching Characteristics 5. Good Communicator • Constantly look for opportunities to talk to your team • We are using the game of softball to develop these channels of communication, so we can begin to speak into our players’ lives

  10. Coaching Pitfalls • We equate success with winning, failure with losing • We let our emotions get the best of us • We expect all our players to be able to master skills taught • We are often afraid to have difficult conversations

  11. Coaching Pitfalls • You try to treat everyone the same • We always have to be right • We expect our governors to take care of all spiritual related matters • We feel we need to do everything
