  8. Relationships begin with “Being Filled With the Spirit” Be continuously filled with the Spirit Role of the HS Sanctifying Work of the Holy Spirit Rm 8:29 predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son  1Cor 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

  9. Relationships begin with “Being Filled With the Spirit” Be continuously filled with the Spirit Role of the HS Meaning of Filled Sail, Pipe Powerful permeation, dominating influence Related Phrases Do not grieve the HS Do not quench the Spirit Walk by the Spirit

  10. Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit (Eph 4:30) Things that hinder His sanctifying work and are contrary to everything that Christ is. • Lay aside falsehood • Be angry but don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. • He who steals must steal no longer. • Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth. • Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice, all evil. • Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. • But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you. • No filthiness and silly talk or coarse jesting.

  11. Do Not Quench the Spirit (1 Th 5:19) Things the Spirit longs to see in our lives • Encourage one another, • Build up one another. • Appreciate those who are over you in the Lord, esteem them highly, • Admonish the unruly, • Encourage the faint-hearted. • Don’t pay back evil for evil. • Seek what is good for one another and for all people. Rejoice always, • pray without ceasing, • In everything give thanks.”

  12. Walk by the Spirit (Gal 5:25) How? • Crucify the flesh with its passions and desires. • Don’t be boastful. • Don’t challenge one another. • Don’t envy one another. When a person is filled with the Spirit, the result is not the gifts of the Spirit, the result is the fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. Galatians 5:22 and 23.

  13. Relationships begin with “Being Filled With the Spirit” So that’s what it means to be filled with the Spirit? • It means to desire to be obedient to the Word of God • It means to be captive to the truth of the Word of God concerning the glorious Christ who is the model of perfect humanity. • It is to be lost in wonder, love and praise, looking at Jesus Christ in all His beauty and all His glory. • And as we do that, with the focus of our minds and hearts, the Spirit takes that image and by His own power conforms us increasingly to it.
