  3. Background In the summer of 2004 a civil informal group was founded, which aimed to lobby and stand for solving the problems of people with disabilities. In order to be more effective, in November 2005, the Association of young people with disabilities, ‘Give a Hand’ was established. At the moment the organization has small number of members – all of them specialists in different spheres.

The Mission and The Main Aim • Our mission is to stand for and protect the interests of people with disabilities and to work for their social integration. • The Main aim is to improve the conditions for social participation and integrity of the Disabled in all spheres of civil life by giving information and consultations for independent living, and lobbying local authorities and institutions.

  5. Projects In 2005 the organization ‘Give a Hand’ carried out a project called ‘Our Life, Our Ideas.’ The length of the project was 12 months from December 2004 - December 2005 with support of the British Council Bulgaria and the partnership of the Center for Independent Living, Sofia.

  6. Projects During 2007, our organization received financial support for a Communicational Strategy of the Bulgarian Republic for the European Union. Through this project we conducted an informational campaign dedicated to encourage active participation of people with disabilities and their local organizations to acquire European funds until 2013.

Projects In 2008 we have conducted the project ‘Expedition to Our Common European Future’ with a partnership of the young organization ‘Give a Hand’- Poland and with the financial support of the Council of Europe through the European Youth Foundation. The aim of the project was to adapt Poland’s good practice for activities with young people with disabilities in our region.

  10. Projects ‘Give a Hand’ was a co-organizer of a course for ceramic painting intended for young people with disabilities and has 15 participants. This course is possible through the financial support of the Bulgarian Agency for People with Disabilities and is called ‘From Novice Artist to Professional Realization.’

Projects • In 2010 ‘Give a Hand’ has implement Innovative integrational trainings for people with disabilities for their inclusion in the labor market, funded by the Agency for Social Assistance; • In the frame of this project were conduct specific trainings on targeting people with disabilities, living in the municipality of Pavlikeni to prepare them for labor market; • 25 students with disabilities participate in courses on English language and computer literacy - groups for their own development and employability.

Collaboration with local authorities Association ‘Give a Hand’ was the initiator, establisher, and active participant of the Community Council for People with Disabilities in the region Veliko Tarnovo, which includes 11 organizations of people with disabilities, around 1,800 members. The honorary president of this Council is the Governor of the region Veliko Tarnovo.

  16. Volunteers and activities Association of young people with disabilities ‘Give a Hand’ works with volunteers from the region. In our work we have demonstrated our potential to organize and conduct different social policies, campaigns and initiatives.

  17. The Award Association "Give a hand" was honored with the European Prize "Handinnov Europe 2008" (Handicap Innovation) for Bulgaria. This is a prizefor innovative teaching methods for people with disabilities. The award was presented us in Paris on 27.11.2008 by the French EU presidency and the European Forum of people with disabilities.

  20. In The European Parliament In February, 2010 a group of European deputies organized a discussion about Human rights and invited liders of people with disabilities from Bugaria to participate in the discussions.
