Timetable • CERN Council meetings scheduled for 22 May PM, and 23 May AM. • Tuesday 21 MayInstall exhibition in Berlaymont building • Wednesday 22 MayMorning: Inaugurate exhibition with members of CERN Council invitedEvening: Round table, ‘What do we get from basic science?’Evening: Reception for Competitiveness Council, Commission, industry association and other opinion formersEvening: VIP dinner? • Thursday 23 MayMorning: Strategy presented to research ministers in CERN Council session Press conference and reception at the exhibition for research ministers to be scheduled • Friday 24 MayMorning: Exhibition open, breakfast briefing for industry associationsAfternoon: Dismount exhibition

Staffing • Minimum of six staff on the exhibition at all times. • PhD students, postdocs or Professors to discuss, excite and inspire • EPPCN/Commission communications staff to meet and greet, and ensure no key visitors are left unattended. • For busier periods, twelve scientists, six communicators and Council members.

  6. Key messages Basic science is good for you. Collaborating across borders makes it even better. Target audience: Competitiveness Council, Brussels-based S&T opinion leaders Choice of examples made to underline key messages

Retained examples by key area Key area 1: Collaborative research in particle physics This area will address in detail the role of particle physics and basic research, mentioning the LHC, its experiments and the worldwide collaborations as an example of collaborative research. It is an opportunity for the commission to highlight its key tools for cross border collaboration, which will include the ERA, the Marie Curie scheme and EURAXESS. Communications staff in this area will have the role of meeting and greeting, and introducing guests to the scientists elsewhere in the exhibition. Astroparticle physics? ESFRI?
