(Northville Parents of African American Students) The mission of N.P.A.A.S. is to partner with Northville parents in the community to promote a diverse academic environment and to ensure all students are successful. N.P.A.A.S. is implementing solutions to help children compete globally! Presenters: Monifa Henry, Tia Marie Sanders, & Tracey Stevenson

Member/Founder • Huron High 9th Grade Dean & former Northville High School Guidance Counselor

To become a parent led organization that offers monthly family engagement programs for enrichment and fun. • Offer tutoring to students in reading and math in 6 week sessions 3 times a school year. • Sunday Fun Day Annually- Guest Speakers, games, themed activities. • Big Block Party Annually- back to school preparations. Summer fun for families. N.P.A.A.S. Vision To ensure and facilitate a Northville school community that is intentional in its commitment to equitable inclusion of African-American Students.

  5. Welcome… • To provide information about N.P.A.A.S. • To encourage parents to become N.P.A.A.S. members. • To hear how N.P.A.A.S. can best serve the the students of Northville School District. Purpose of Parent Breakout Session

  6. Partnerships: • Northville Art House • NHS’ National Honor Society • Northville Fire Department • Northville Public Library • Northville Public Schools • Northville Youth Assistance N.P.A.A.S. Community Outreach

Formed in 2017 by parents of African American students that saw a need to have an open dialogue regarding issues and topics involving the African American Students in the Northville Community School District. N.P.A.A.S. is growing into a dynamic organization whose goal is to help all students, regardless of ethnicity, achieve their potential. History of N.P.A.A.S.

  8. Purpose: • To bring families together for fun activities, themes, and community building. • Guest Speakers and performances. • Healthy Meal Choices Demonstration. • Family Focused Activities. • Funding was donated by parent volunteers. Sunday Fun Day

  9. Purpose: • Community wide Back to School Kick Off. • Haircuts, face painting, manicures, Firetruck mini tours, board games, food and fun and backpack with school supplies give-a-way! • Funding - Parent contributions and Northville School District donations. Big Block Party

NPAAS in existence for second year. • Meet and Greet Event at The Art House in Northville, MI • Parent Boot Camp Break Out Sessions at Northville High School • Winter, Spring, & Fall - 6 week tutoring sessions • Together We Rise - Foster Care Bags Fundraiser and Packing • Sunday Fun Day - April 2018 • Visited Northville schools to share information with families • Hosted 2nd Annual Big Block Party at Meads Mill in Northville, MI 2018 In Review…

  11. Winter & Spring - 6 week tutoring sessions • Parent Camp at NHS • Sunday Funday - April 28th • Big Block Party - August 24th • Fundraiser - TBD 2019…. Increase Volunteers Add Programing Fundraising Scholarships

Cady St, Northville, 48167 Saturdays: 10:30 am -12:30 pm ~ Our Time Together ~ We have Students sign in and out We discuss student’s educational needs with parent * Reading Enrichment Sessions * Math Enrichment Sessions * Homework Review *Encouragement and Snacks Saturday Tutoring Program
