  10. Practice 3 Click on the cause in this sentence: The window broke because Jake kicked the ball.

  11. Wonderful! Cause: Jake kicked the ball. Effect: The ball broke the window.

  12. Practice 4 Last weekend, there was a storm. The power went out for 3 hours! There was thunder and lightning, too. My puppy was scared. What is the effect the storm? • I ate some popcorn. • The power went out. • The roads flooded. • I could not do my homework.

  14. Practice 5 Last weekend you were so excited about playing on the beach. You played in the water, built sand castles and picked up seashells. Because you forgot to put on sunscreen, at the end of the day you felt very hot, your skin was as red as a strawberry, you couldn't stand to touch it. You were sunburned. What is the effect of not wearing sunscreen? • You put on sunscreen. • You were sunburned. • You won't go to the beach again. • You had to sing a song while you ate.

  16. Practice 6 If a balloon gets stuck with a rose thorn, it will pop. What is the cause of the balloon popping? • A sharp object sticking the balloon. • The balloon floats away. • The balloon is old. • The rose thorn is too soft to pop the balloon.

  17. Magnificent! Cause: The balloon was stuck with something sharp. Effect: The balloon popped.

  18. Practice 7 Max could not go to the party due to the fact that he was sick.What is the effect of Max being sick? • He stayed home and watched a movie. • He got to eat pizza. • He was sick. • He could not go to the party.

  19. Awesome! Cause: Max is sick. Effect: He had to miss the party.

  20. Practice 8 Dorsey and Josie were at the bus stop very early. After about an hour, the bus did not come. They wondered where all the other kids were that morning. Soon they decided to return home. What could have caused the bus not to come? • Dorsey and Josie had the chicken pox. • All the other kids were sick. • Dorsey and Josie had forgotten that it was Saturday. • The bus broke down.

  22. Practice 9 Courtney put $2 in his pants pocket to buy some erasers from the school store. When the bus got to Sparks, he got off and went inside. After unpacking his book bag he went to the school store, but noticed there was a hole in his pocket. His money was missing. What caused Courtney’s money to be missing? • Someone stole his money. • He had a hole in his pocket. • He forgot his money at home. • He put it in his locker.

  24. Practice 10 Karissa and Hana were playing on the playground at recess. They were playing tag. Caroline came over to play, too. They were having so much fun. Mr. Ament called for everyone to line up. The girls ran to the blacktop with everyone else in 4th grade. What causedKarissa, Hana, and Caroline to run to the blacktop? • Mr. Ament told everyone to line up. • Dorsey and Josie were playing jumprope. • They wanted to play four square. • It started to rain.
