  3. Why does Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy Exist? “Of 100 Chicago Public School Freshmen, 6 will get a college degree…The prospects are even worse for African-American and Latino male freshmen, who only have about a 3 percent chance of obtaining a bachelor's degree by the time they're 25.”

Goode Demographics 2014-2015 Enrollment: 644 African Americans: 60% Hispanic: 36% Males: 51% Females 49% If we perpetuated standard CPS practices, only 29 of our 644 Innovators will earn a college degree.

Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy exists to create a JUST society. Core Belief ALL children can achieve at high academic levels as measured by college success. If we perpetuated standard CPS practices, only 29 of our 644 Innovators will earn a college degree.

  10. Did you know? How much money does Goode spend on ensuring the safety of our Innovators? Over $750,000 This includes salaries for our disciplinarian team, our culture team, extended day pay for all after school activities, safety coverage to the bus stops at our various dismissals.

  11. How Will We Create a JUST Society? Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy is connecting the world of high school, college, and career. Our Mission is to develop Innovators. An Innovator accomplishes two things: • Earn an Associate’s Degree, in addition to their high school diploma • Master the Goode Life Habits This is how we will create a just society.

  16. Did you know? What percentage of our Juniors are DOING college by taking classes at Daley College? About 60% The average cost of a class at Daley is over $500. Goode has spent over $100,000 total per semester to support our Innovators.

  17. Expansion School Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy has grown by close to 250 students every year. As an expansion school, we receive $500 per student for only our first class of students to cover all expenses including textbooks and any additional equipment and supplies (like security supplies, copiers, athletic equipment, science lab supplies, math manipulatives, etc.) Did you know that the average textbook costs over $100? Since our students take 8 courses per year (1 additional course than a typical CPS school) it would cost us over $800 to buy textbooks for every student for every class.

Answers to Questions and Concerns Communication: • Monthly Parent Newsletter • Ms. Kee, Manager of Operations, oversees updating the website Daley: • All students, except those that have started a mini-session, have received their textbooks • We have secured an additional bus to shuttle students to Daley • We are continuing to improve the lunches for Daley College Resource: • We have hired an Early College Coordinator • Course is being restructured to ensure students reach our mission New Staff Members • Be sure to check out the Monthly Parent Newsletter to learn more about our new staff

  19. Answers to Questions and Concerns Textbooks: • Our philosophy is that we need to expose our Innovators to use multiple resources including textbooks. We expect our teachers to utilize multiple resources when developing their lessons. We have provided our adults with unlimited copies. Test Scores: • Ms. Huddleston is preparing several Parent Nights

  20. Next Steps We will host monthly parent meetings one hour before our PAC meetings. Our first parent meeting will be at 5pm on Thursday, October 16th.
