  2. By the end of the evening, you will: • Understand how our program (STEM +Arts Academy) works • Know the expectations for your child • Have information about how you can support your child’s learning

Our Mission We believe children will be responsible for: their learning their behavior their decisions their assignments The STEM +Arts Academy, rooted in the STEM +Arts philosophy, will provide a stimulating and engaging atmosphere that fosters all students innate curiosity and joy of discovery to achieve high levels of success. Students will positively contribute as citizens in a diverse and global community.

  5. STEM + Arts Academy Students: *will be able to set and achieve goals *will be able to demonstrate behaviors which reflect trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship *will be able to work in cooperative teams *will take pride in their accomplishments

  6. *Respect property. • *Respect all students, staff members, parents, • and visitors. • *Complete homework and classwork on time. • *Follow directions. • *Follow safety rules. Expectations

STEM Habits These habits include: * attendance/tardies/early dismissals/Passports * coming to school on time, in classroom, no later than 8:30 AM * bringing required work, tools, paper, pencils, etc. * maintaining an agenda book, including daily parent signatures * completion of homework on time * appropriate dress for school * attitude of cooperation with teacher and fellow students * time in class devoted to appropriate task

  8. County Testing- FOCUS (Science) Math Benchmark Tests FAIR State Testing-3rd Grade: Reading, Math 4th Grade: Reading, Math, Writing 5th Grade: Reading, Math, Science Testing Be sensitive to these when making appointments or planning vacations.

  9. Homework *Students will write down assignments in their agenda books and bring work home with them. *Parents will check assignment notebooks every night. *Students have 20/30 minutes of reading a night. *Students who do not bring back completed homework will lose a portion of recess to complete the assignment. This is a component of Responsibility Recess time. *If your child will be absent and you are requesting homework, please give the teachers 24 hours notice so we can gather the missing work for you to pick up in the office.

  14. Goal : Developing students’ mastery of mathematical concepts. Mathematics *Math Journals *Online Information *Goal setting for Math Topics *Pretesting *Math Fluency

  15. Our school utilizes a program called “Building Critical Writers.” • We will be developing our skills in the narrative, expository, and persuasive styles. • Proper grammar and language skills will be developed using a variety of sources. Composition

Goal: Developing students’ scientific knowledge and skills Daily science booklets provide experience and background knowledge in all areas of science so students gain exposure to science content throughout the year. Science Fusion, classroom activities, projects, inquiry labs, and Science Lab, enhance science knowledge and skills. Students are responsible for knowing : The Nature of Science, Physical Science, Life Science, and Earth Science. A science contract was sent home with grading scale, expectations, and classroom rules. It was signed by parents and glued into science notebooks. LEARN is a web portal that allows students to access their textbook, take practice mini-assessments, and utilize other science resources to practice for benchmark assessments. Science

  17. All grades will be studying geography, economics, and government. • Fourth grade will have an emphasis on Florida, while fifth grade will concentrate on US History. Social Studies Social Studies
