GlassDirector’s Review 15-Dec-2011 • Fermilab (Technical Division) has hosted Auger Project Management office since collaboration was organized in 1995 • Key roles: • Project Manager (Mantsch): responsible for construction; currently responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Observatory. Prepares status reports to the collaboration, the Collaboration Board and Finance Board. • US Auger country representative (Mantsch). • Cost & Schedule (Glass) • Web site admin, project database admin (Glass) • Surface Detector Task Leader (Mazur) • Administrative Support (McCook) • ES&H

Auger Project Management Office • Management Roles: • Supervises the operation of the observatory • Organizes technical reviews • Chair Technical Board • Serve as US country representative • Negotiated Memoranda of Understanding for operations with 93 Auger institutions • Financial Roles: • Prepares and tracks annual operating budget • Allocates operating funds requests to Auger countries and other US Auger institutions • Maintains team account at CERN • Maintains Finance Board documentation • Prepares financial reports for the Auger Finance Board

Auger Project Management Office • Organizational Roles: • Maintains country, institution, collaborator and author databases. • Maintains auger.org administration and public web pages. • Maintains mailing lists • Prepares bi-monthly status reports for the collaboration and Finance Board • Maintains internal technical documents (GAP notes) • Presents management status reports at Collaboration Meetings • Compiles annual Operations Cost List for allocating operational cost responsibility among member countries

Technical Reviews Project Management Office (Fermilab) oversees review committees, charge to reviewers, tracking action items Reviews conducted for each major task (FD, SD, Communications, Central Data Acq., Data Processing, Electronics) DESIGN REQUIREMENTS REVIEWS PRELIMINARY DESIGN REVIEWS (PDRs) CRITICAL DESIGN REVIEWS (CDRs) PRODUCTION READINESS REVIEWS (PRRs) OPERATIONS READINESS REVIEWS (ORRs) SPECIAL REVIEWSe.g., Atmospheric Monitoring, Balloon Launch Facility, Visitor Center, FD CalibrationENHANCEMENT REVIEWS – HEAT and AMIGA

  6. Memoranda of Understanding for Operations • MOUs obligate each institution for: • Data taking shifts • Maintenance support for detector hardware and/or software components • Collaborative work with other Auger institutions for maintenance tasks
