CTE Committee Report • Participation in regional input sessions for new BOG Task Force on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy • Definition of a “Career Pathway” – input by 12/15 • Discussion of work-based learning and career placement (BACCC industry marketplaces, Deputy Sector Navigators, Workforce Investment Boards) and how Peralta Colleges can better connect and leverage resources – WIBs invited for Flex Day on January 15 • Marketing of CTE programs – January 13 strategic planning retreat

Career Pathways Trust • Second regional meeting on December 4th • 240+ in attendance • Improved placement (Long Beach model) • Campus English and Math faculty leading local conversations • Duel enrollment strategies (Santa Barbara model) • Peralta VPs/Deans/HR and DAS meeting on Dec. 18 • Integrated (HS/CC) Counseling and early outreach • Pathway Action Teams: HS/CC • ICT (CIS) - • Advanced Manufacturing/Engineering • Health & Bioscience • Public Service and Law • On-line communities created for each Pathway Team • More at http://web.peralta.edu/ccpt/

  4. AB 86 - Adult Education Plan Goal: • Provide access to instructional services forall who need it.*

AB 86 – Adult Education Plan Strategies: • Adult Schools and Colleges have distinct roles that are well aligned and highly coordinated; • Adult School roles: • Literacy and very low skill students (1st-7th grade); High School Equivalency (HSE) • Low level CTE for contextualized learning – linked to higher levels at CC’s • Open entry/exit; noncredit; repeatability; focus on life skills and self-sufficiency • Community College roles: • College and Career focus • All higher level CTE • CDCP non-credit sequences (closely aligned with Adult Schools) • Post-secondary credit and industry-driven credentials (higher level ESL and Basic Skills) • Community-based organization (CBO) roles: • Student supports (wrap-around) • Communications and outreach • Source of aligned and leveraged additional resources • Aligned system would include: • Cross-system professional network for instructors (that include opportunities for professional development and curriculum alignment) – clear MQ’s • A much higher degree of ESL and Basic Skills instruction embedded in contextualized CTE instruction. More bridge programming available. • Shared student data, assessments, placement policies and procedures, education planning – coordinated, clear COMMUNICATION to students
