  1. Jesus Heals A Blind Man Mark 10:46-52

  2. “With His disciples and a great number of people” What took place was done “in the sunshine” Plenty of witnesses “This was not done in a corner” (Acts 26:26). cf. 2 Corinthians 8:21

  3. “Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men” (2 Cor. 8:21)

  4. “Sat by the highway side (road) begging” A desperate situation Would have been noticed by all who passed by Little could be done by the blind Not much to help them except for an alm cf. Romans 5:6

  5. “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Rom. 5:6)

  6. “He realizes it is “Jesus of Nazareth” Luke says he asked (Lk. 18:36) and was told (Lk. 18:37) the situation Late in the ministry of Jesus Fame had spread cf. Acts 10:37-38

  7. “That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (Acts 10:37-38)

  8. “He began to cry out” “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me” “Son of David” indicates more than just ancestry, it was about Him being the Messiah (Matt. 21:9, 15; 22:42) Mercy, not alms. Implies an appeal to what has brought Jesus His fame (Matt. 4:23-25) cf. Acts 2:21 cf. Acts 10:37-38

  9. “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21)

  10. “Hold [your] peace” Some thought Bartimaeus was out of order But he kept it up Even increased his pleading cf. Matthew 7:7-8

  11. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Matt. 7:7-8)

  12. “Jesus stood still” Commanded Bartimaeus to be called Perhaps the very ones who tried to silence his pleas now urge him to approach Jesus

  13. The urgency of Bartimaeus is appealing ASV has he “sprang up” Rid himself of the garment that might impede him He wanted to come to Jesus Romans 7:24; Galatians 1:14

  14. “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Rom. 7:24) “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father” (Gal. 1:4)

  15. The conclusion of the matter (51-52) “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?” “I might receive my sight” “Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole” “Immediately he received his sight” “[He] followed Jesus in the way

  16. What else do we learn? Blind man sought mercy Jesus could and did deliver him But Bartimaeus had to come to Jesus

  17. re. Acts 2:39 The promise here is salvation But, like Bartimaeus, you have to answer the call of Jesus Believe in Jesus (Acts 2:36) Repent and be baptized (Acts 2:38)
