  2. Habitat • Narwhals live in the icy waters of the Arctic Seas. • Narwhals can be mainly found in the Atlantic and Russian Potions of the Antarctic. • Narwhals are generally seen in groups of twenty to thirty with varying combinations of male, female, and calves. • They rarely stray far from ice. In summer they infrequently enter estuaries, deep fjords, and bays.

  3. The Narwhal is an Arctic species of a mammal with a body similar to that of a • dolphin. This helps it swim faster and easier. • They have blubber under their skin so that they can stay warm in the Arctic waters. • What may seem to be relatively minor variations in temperature have produced • large positive feedbacks in the environment that have often had dramatic impacts • on physical and biological systems. Imagine yourself having a tooth 7-10 feet long! • Every Narwhal has 2 teeth on its upper jaw. • The most interesting characteristic of male narwhals is their single extraordinary long tusk, an incisor (the first kind of tooth In heterodont mammals ) that projects from the left side of the upper jaw and forms a left-handed helix. • Narwhal’s tusks can weigh up to 10 kilograms. • It is rarely found south of latitude 70°N.

  6. WEIGHT, HEIGHT, LIFESPAN AND LENGTH • A Narwhal’s life span is about 50 years long. That is about 30 years less than us. • A narwhal weighs about a ton (2,000 pounds). The biggest narwhal ever found was 3,500 pounds. • The narwhal is one of the smallest whales, but is larger than dolphins, which are only 6 ft. long. Narwhals are from 10 to 20 ft. long (not including the tusks). • Females grow to 4.2 m (14 ft) in length, and males to 4.7 m (15 ft).
