WS Textbook 678-696 Right Words • Accept, Except: verb accept (to receive, to believe); preposition except (other than) • Affect, Effect: verb affect (to influence); verb effect (to produce, accomplish, complete) as a noun (result) • Complement, Compliment: complement (completes or fulfills); compliment (expression of admiration or praise) • It’s, Its: It’s (contraction of “it is”); Its (possessive of “it”) • Sight, Cite, Site:Sight (“the act of seeing”); Cite (“to quote”, “to summon”); site (“location”) • Their, There, They’re: Their (possessive personal pronoun); There (adverb to point out location); They’re (contraction for “they are”) • To, Too, Two: To (preposition “in the direction of”, or to form infinitive); Too (“also”, “very”); Two (number) • Your, You’re: Your (possessive pronoun); You’re (contraction for “you are”

WS Textbook 678-696 Right Words • A lot: (always two words) vague descriptive phrase that should be used sparingly • Good, Well: good (adjective); well (usually an adverb) • Imply, Infer: imply (“to suggest or express indirectly”); infer (“to draw a conclusion from the facts)- Ex. a writer implies, and the reader infers • Lay, Lie: lay (to place, and past tense of lie); lie(“to recline”) • Set, Sit: set (to place); sit (to put the body in a seated position)
