Aims of the Programme • To recruit future health care professionals from the local population • To integrate academic and vocational learning • To encourage adult learners to return to education • To develop flexible and imaginative programmes • To allow people to ‘earn whilst they learn’. • To maintain effective relationships with other partners

  4. The Current Programmes Preparation for Diploma In Health Care Access to Health Care Diploma in Perioperative Practice Degree in Nursing Degree in OT Diploma in Nursing Degree in Midwifery Degree in Physiotherapy Apprenticeship Programme

  5. Who Are These Apprentices? • They are local people • They are between 19 and 55 years • Internal candidates are existing support workers • External candidates are wishing to commence a career in health care • They all have a desire and commitment to learning and to delivering high quality patient care

  6. What Do They Do? • The apprentices are employed as support workers • They attend Abingdon and Witney College one day per week • They complete an OCN accredited programme • They study Science, Maths, Study Skills, IT, Social Science and Reflective Practice • They complete clinical competencies in their workplace

  7. What do the Clinical Teachers do? Marketing & Recruitment Communication Workplace Support Academic & Pastoral Support

  8. Measures of our Success • 122 apprentices have completed the pre-degree and pre-diploma programmes • 53 apprentices have graduated from Oxford Brookes University • 62 apprentices are currently studying at OBU • The programme plays a key role in recruitment & retention of support workers • The programme has been able to be responsive to new initiatives and evolve according to our stakeholders needs
