  3. The Sword of Zorro If the ‘sword’ wielder tries to: Chop off your head – DUCK! Chop off your legs – JUMP! Get your left side – Move RIGHT! Get your right side – Move LEFT! Hit your belly button – Jump BACK!

  4. Why commit? • Build leadership skills • Gain responsibility • Learn new skills • Work on existing skills • Earn diary points • Learn time management skills

  5. President • Elected by the club to chair meetings • Prepares the meeting agenda • Maintains order to the meetings • Club spokesperson

  6. Vice President • Chairs the meetings if the President is absent • Even though the duty list appears short, this person must be aware of all the club business

  7. Parliamentarian • Helps run meetings effectively by knowing parliamentary procedure • Club constitution review

  8. Secretary • Helps the President prepare the agenda • Gives notice of meetings • Records attendance • Reads minutes • Handles club correspondence

  9. Treasurer • Receives all money to make deposits • Pays bills on time • Records all transactions • Keeps accurate records • Signs cheques

  10. News Reporter • Informs radio, newspapers and other news outlets (Like the Alberta 4-H Magazine!) of club activities • Keeps a scrapbook of pictures and reports

You get out what you put in In addition to getting to know the members of your club better, there are many advantages to being on the executive: • Community leadership roles (team captain) • Applying to 4-H (and non 4-H) programs • First jobs – plump up the resume! • Scholarships – more involvement to write • College – 4-H looks good on your application • Better time and task management skills • Diary points
