Purpose of Workshop Activation of building stock Case study - Tama New Town, Tokyo • To grasp the actual condition of building stock activation in various countries; • To share solutions to common problems; • To develop epoch-making ideas for activation of building stock; • To develop world-standard human resources with comprehensive and practical knowledge.

  3. Subject of Workshop Activation and renewal of Tama New Town which left behind the times. • old apartment houses without lifts • disused schools • closed shopping centers

Theme of group working ① What do you activate ? • the potential of each area viewpoint : planning, sociology, environment, design, ... • the utilization of existing building stock viewpoint : architectural design, structural engineering, architectural environment, building production, ... ② How do you activate ? pull-down (demolition), rebuilding, remodeling, renovation, renewal, transformation (conversion), redevelopment, ...
