  1. Kairos Prison Ministry InternationalSummer Conference 2013 RECRUITMENT

  2. RECRUITMENT Our Vision – • A Community Spiritually Freed From the Effects of Imprisonment, reaching all Impacted by Incarceration, through the Love, Hope, and Faith found in Jesus Christ. Our Mission – • The mission of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.

  3. RECRUITMENT • The What • Summary of Committee Charter • The How • Strategic Planning • The Expectation • Expansion of our recruitment base in the decade ahead

  4. RECRUITMENT • Analysis of our current position - Plusses • Kairos has an active volunteer base • Kairos enjoys a strong relationship with the state and private prison (DOC) management teams where it serves. • Kairos enjoys strong brand recognition within “4-day” walk communities • Kairos has effective recruitment tools • Kairos has implemented a solid foundational “weekend” program

  5. RECRUITMENT • Analysis of our current position – Minuses

  6. RECRUITMENT • Analysis of our current position – Minuses • Kairos volunteer base (men) is mostly white and middle-aged AND lacking in diversity • Heavy burden on weekend leader for recruiting • Uncommitted or partially committed AC volunteer/outreach coordinators • Geographic issue with volunteer base • Kairos unknown outside of 4th day communities • Difficulty with Volunteer Resource Building guide • Lack of new recruits leads to EXTREME burnout

  7. RECRUITMENT • Success possibilities • Kairos has a potentially large volunteer base at its disposal • Churches have a desire to support localized missions (Kairos – Matthew 25:36) • Growing church communities have younger members (Kairos – an impacting alternative) • Budget constraints direct state governments to alternatives (Why not Kairos?)

  8. RECRUITMENT • Success roadblocks (Matt 9:35-38) • Lack of a more robust recruitment program • Quick transition of new volunteers to leadership roles • Older volunteers losing effectiveness • Lack of succession plan to replace the graying volunteer base

  9. RECRUITMENT • Priorities • Develop database of churches, civic and other groups as target groups for volunteer recruitment. • Maintain volunteer (individuals) database • Activity to retain current/past volunteers • Outreach to colleges/churches surrounding prison communities • Outreach training coordinator training program • Build brand awareness of Kairos • Social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram) • Strengthen outreach to minorities
