  4. What is shift work • Bit subjective really • Nights • Earlies • Lates • Instable patterns • Not only about nights

  5. How does it effect indibduals • Makes them grumpy asocial paths • Or is it a case of self selection • Makes them more stressed • And less healthy • Effect the immune system

  6. How does it effect groups • Less well studied • Strong team building • Strong identity • Ambition to be the best • People more independent most arrogant • Have to work without managers etc

  7. How does it effect organisations • Different management approaches • Increased productivity • Time for non standard functions • Expensive • Hard to get people

  8. Rotation • Rapid (over days) • Intermediate (over weeks) • Slow (over months)

  9. How to cope • When to sleep • Door bells • Phones • Support

  10. How to investigate • Data collection • Attitudes, performance, probe tasks • Intervention design • Trialling, user acceptance • Organisational integration • With organisational goal and staff needs.
