Proposal • Work with an Established SASB Sub-committee such as AudCom • Define the Stabilized Category and process per current SASB OpsMan section 9.3. • Build PAR Process for Stabilized and Reaffirmed • Build Checklist for PAR and approval • Define Sponsor of Last Resort • Define Sitting Balloting Body of last resort SASB Ad Hoc on Stabilized Standards

Proposal (cont) • In order for a candidate standard to be eligible to be maintained as a stabilized standard it must address mature technology or practices, and as a result, be unlikely to require revision.  In addition, the standard must be required for use in connection with existing implementations or for reference purposes. • In terms of length of time as an ANS, to be eligible for stabilization, an ANS has to be • 1) reaffirmed at least once and • 2) at least 10 years have passed since the approval or last revision of the standard as an ANS. Proposal (cont) • The IEEE SA must process the proposed Stabilized standard in accordance with its accredited procedures.  A consensus body is to be involved in the decision to maintain the standard as a "stabilized" ANS. • A standard that is maintained as a stabilized ANS shall include a clear statement of the intent to consider requests for change and information on the submittal of such requests.  SASB Ad Hoc on Stabilized Standards

Stabilization Process • Proposal for Stabilization (via PAR) • Sponsor • Sponsor of Last Resort – SASB/STBZCom, (if Sponsor cannot be found) • Interested Party • Review Criteria per ANSI guidelines • Publish/Call for a Public Comment period • Active solicitation of working group member, if found. • Published Public Comment Period – ANSI/IEEE pubs press release • Consensus Balloting Body • Sponsor balloting body • Balloting Body of Last Resort – The Sitting Stabilization Balloting Body • SASB sub-committee recommendation to SASB for approval • Revisit per ANSI rules for Stabilized ANS SASB Ad Hoc on Stabilized Standards

Next Steps for Stabilized Standards • Get tentative approval from SASB to proceed • Review OpMan process • Align with ANSI “Stabilized ANS” • Compose ProCom changes if any • Prepare Initial Stabilized candidates from sponsors • Push the Initial Candidates through process to IEEE Stabilized Standard/ANSI Stabilized ANS SASB Ad Hoc on Stabilized Standards
