  1. Polar Regions By: Denise Tsui

  2. Research and Background I researched the polar regions. The climate of this region: • Average temperature during the summer: 20°F or -6.66°C) • Average temperature during the winter -30°F or -34.44°C • Highest wind speeds in Antarctica : Over 200 miles or 322 km per hour • Average precipitation in Antarctica is less than two inches or 5 cm

  3. Research and Background Canada has places that contain this kind of environment. These places are in the artic circle. The artic circle includes: Part of each: • Yukon, • Nunavut, • Northwest Territories Some of the conditions that make it hard to survive include the following: • Cold weather • Extreme amounts of snow and ice • Extreme altitudes • Scarce amount of food

  4. Research and Background The obstacles of exploring this environment: • Cold Environment • Large amounts of snow and ice • Dangerous animals • Thin air altitude Why is it important to investigate this region? To know the changes of: • Weather • Climate Change • Global Warming • Melting Ice • And Temperature

  5. Exploration and Technology • Technology used to explore these areas: • A rover called a Yeti • It hasa special skin, and electric motor and ATV tires. • Snowshoes • Snowmobiles Polar Expedition: Who, When, and What • John Franklin • 1819 to 1822 and 1825 to 1827 • He proved there was the Northwest Passage (a water route)

  6. Exploration and Technology Polar Expedition: Who, When, and What • John Franklin • 1819 to 1822 and 1825 to 1827 • He proved there was the Northwest Passage (a water route) Technology used to explore these areas: • A rover called a Yeti • It hasa special skin, and electric motor and ATV tires. • Snowshoes • Snowmobiles These technologies work to help travel through the area and explore the area.

  7. Exploration and Technology Ways to explore this region responsibly: • Don’t litter • Don’t leave anything but footprints or maybe cameras too • Take the smallest amounts of things to be observed • Try not to make global warming more of a problem • Do not disturb the animals in that region
