  3. e-Books in Public Libraries Research Suggestions for the future 1. Workforce development CyMAL to assess the e-books training needs of library staff, especially of front-line staff

IT Issues Consortium and/or the Society of Chief Librarians give thought to how authorities might work with their IT departments to ensure that issues surrounding security do not militate against national planning for the future provision of e-books across Wales

  5. e-Books in Public Libraries Research Suggestions for the future 3. Handheld readers The consortium should assess the efficacy of the Askews’ delivery mechanism to handheld readers, and investigate the nature of the demand

  6. e-Books in Public Libraries Research Suggestions for the future 4. Promotion CyMAL include within the main library strategy, the marketing and promotion of e-books - Possible roles for WBC and NLW

Tender periods Strongly suggested that CyMAL & the consortium explore the possibility of introducing a standard clause: 3 1-year extension periods following the first year of a contract so that the service can be renewed seamlessly with no break in service

  8. e-Books in Public Libraries Research Suggestions for the future 6. Welsh-language e-books CyMAL and the Welsh Books Council to consider extending the selection of English Language Titles in Wales print titles to include e-book titles, and also Welsh e-book titles

  9. e-Books in Public Libraries Research Suggestions for the future 7. Consortium Pilot CyMAL to discuss the issues and questions raised by Pilot authorities with the pilot consortium working party

  10. e-Books in Public Libraries Research Suggestions for the future 8. Pilot consortium evaluation In addition to any quantitative usage analysis undertaken by the consortium, CyMAL should instigate a short complimentary qualitative study to be undertaken during the final months
