Truman Doctrine • The Truman Doctrine was an international policy set by President Truman in a speechon March 12, 1947. • It stated that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent them from falling into the Sovietsphere. • Historians often consider it as the start of the Cold War, and the start of the containment policy to stop Soviet expansion. • Truman pledged the US to contain communism.

  3. Marshall Plan • The Marshall Plan (officially the European Recovery Program, ERP) was the American initiative to aid Europe, in which the US gave economic support to help rebuild European economies after the end of WWII in order to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism
