  5. APEC Research Center for Typhoon and Society (ACTS) Establishment (Grand Opening 22 November 2010) The ACTS is an APEC self-funded Center which approved by Industrial Science and Technology Working Group (APEC-ISTWG) in September 2010.

  6. Characteristics of ACTS • An Intergovernmental Organization in Taiwan • Interdisciplinary approach to reduce threats from natural hazards • A platform for sharing typhoon and weather extremes related science, technology and experience among APEC Member Economies ACTS platform

  7. ACTS Goal • Save lives and reduce losses (救命減災) • Promote researches on improving the understanding of typhoon and heavy rain characteristics in Asia‐Pacific region, especially the interaction of typhoon, monsoon, and complex terrain • Establish a collaborative platform on sharing typhoon and heavy rain‐related information and experience among member economies of APEC • Provide recommendations of adaptation strategies on reducing social-economic impacts
